In May 2005 The Roofie Foundation combined forces with Crisis a specialist Trauma service est. 11 years ago. The two organisations decided to combine their collective expertise due to concerns at the rise in reports of Drink Spiking and DFSA. Crisis has an extensive database of Trauma Counsellors, both on and off site, who have a special interest in assisting those who have been affected by this type of crime, the aftermath and the subsequent long term complexities that can ensue.
This is the first time anywhere in Europe that such an organisation can offer and deliver face-to-face Specialist Trauma Counselling.
Drink Spiking prevails, but not all crimes have been sexually motivated, so therefore, although the Sexual Offences Act will help those who have been sexually assaulted, or abused, there are many others who do not find appropriate support and justice.
As a result of more positive media reporting, campaigning by Roofie Foundation, training and educational programmes, our research is now showing that there is a greater public awareness of the need to be more alert to personal and group safety.
Crisis and the Roofie Foundation continue to work together to Research, Campaign and Educate, to help combat this serious crime and work very closely with other agencies.
As so many of those affected present their story to a range of agencies, who have no contact with each other, it almost impossible to collect accurate data, both Crisis and The Roofie Foundation encourage, where possible, that people report the crime. Without evidence it will be very difficult for the police or any relevant agency to have enough information to justify resources and support, and continue the fight to make changes to the law.
