National women's magazine request 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,

My name is Lisa and I am a features writer for Caters News. I have been commissioned by a a national magazine to find women with experiences on the subject of 'dangerous nights out', in the hope that other women can learn from these experiences and make sure they are safe.

One angle I am looking at is women who have had their drinks spiked. Your experience could be anything from having a bad reaction but your friends were around to look after you, to you finding yourself alone and being attacked.

The hope is to raise people's awareness of how to be safe when out drinking.

If your story is published, you will be paid 100 pounds. You must be happy to be indentified and have your picture included.

If you are interested in taking part, please telephone 0121 616 1100.

Many thanks,

Lisa

Hi Lisa

My name is Linda Gray and I am one ‘Survivor’ of Drug Facilitated Rape, I would like to offer you my opinion about your request for a woman to come forward, bare her soul to you and talk about one of the most intimate experiences of her life!

What are you thinking?

Your request was ‘to find women with experiences on the subject of 'dangerous nights out' ...

What does that mean?

I went to my local, of nine years for a quick wind-down from a challenging week at work!

Was that a ‘dangerous night out’?

If you had taken the time to read some of these women’s stories, you would read that the high majority of Spiking Incidents happens around people we know; work parties, that friend of a friend, that person you’ve seen at work…the list goes on.

Are these all ‘dangerous night out’?

‘You must be happy to be indentified and have your picture included’.

Are you serious?

Please give Journalism and the Subject of your story some respect, and research your chosen/assigned story a bit better.

Many thanks
Linda

Hello again Lisa

I’m sorry to see you haven’t taken the time to come back to this site, I have to say I’m very surprised, as I would have thought a ‘features writer for Caters News’ would use this site to research this subject.

Then I realised your not a journalist as I understand a journalist to be, after looking at Carters News I’ve realised you buy someone’s story and then ‘help’ them to sell it again for more money of which you get a cut.

http://www.catersnews.com/users/features/features.php

This is the link to Carters News ‘features’ page. What I am writing here is just my opinion and maybe I’ve misunderstood something or taken it the wrong way. I would ask all the readers to come to there own conclusions, thanks.

So…your remit was to find women with experiences on the subject of 'dangerous nights out’ …and you decided it would be a ‘good idea’ to put your request on a support website for people who have experienced drug facilitated rape.

And…to add insult to injury…you say… in the hope that other women can learn from these experiences and make sure they are safe.’
Have you read any of the posts on here?

One angle I am looking at is…do I really need to say anything…

Your experience could be anything from having a bad reaction, do you know what this might be…

to you finding yourself alone and being attacked, again…have you read any of the posts?

If your story is published, you will be paid 100 pounds…most of these survivors have had there lives turned upside down, some, including myself have had to change jobs or move house at great expense.

You must be happy to be indentified and have your picture included…I know I’ve mentioned my unhappiness with this statement before…but I just wanted to clarify if you want someone to be ‘indentified’ or ‘identified’?

I have a feeling you will never respond to this but I live in hope.

Best wishes
