Hi
In December 08 I went to a gig in Manchester on Saturday, on Sunday I was violently sick, couldn't eat, and had difficulty sleeping, on Monday I wasn't well. By Tuesday I was 'out of my head' I ended up at A&E after acting totally out of character, memory lapse, a few moments of lucidity, hearing and seeing things etc.
I ended up on medication for 3 months and having to see pychriatric doctors a few times. They described it as 'drug induced transient phycosis caused by malicous contamination of drink with illicit substances'. I ended up being signed off for 2 weeks.
I'm fine now, been signed off the medication and discharged from the doctors. But I am left with that diagnosis, and a worry that I was actually ill (might come back??). What I suppose I am asking is what the 'illicit substance' could it be, as it took 48 hours to truly kick in ?? Blood test taken 5 days after Saturday, showed nothing. I have asked the doctors if they are sure about the diagnosis, and they have said yes.
Also went to the police, but without evidence - nothing they can do.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It's quite possible that it could have been EColi or a severe food allergy or food poisoning. If only because it happened 48 hrs after the fact. I hope you are feeling better.

I am very unsure of any drugs that would take so long to feel the effects.
By any chance did you go to the pub etc a day or so after te gig. Something could have been put in your drink at this time?
Food posioning / Ecoli is a possibility though.

Thanks, I'm fine now
I was in Manchester the next day but wasn't in any pubs, just cafes etc.
I've questioned the doctors on all this, and they were quite certain it was the side effects of drugs - but I was/am worried (they seem to dismiss this) that it had taken so long to effect me, so am not sure.
I ate the same as everyone else, with the exception of some mushroom (from sainsbury!!) (
- which was when I was sick. Also I took some antibiotics, which I never get on well with. I've mentioned this to them(the doctors) but again it seems to be dismissed.
