It’s a month away from being 3 years since I was spiked and I have found ways to keep myself and my friends as safe as possible.
Last night a group of us went out for my friend’s birthday we went to a lively little bar and proceeded to dance, because of my experience I am a lot more aware when I’m out and we always make sure at least one of us stays sensible to keep everyone safe.
The dance floor was raised and we danced at the end which was directly above the end of the bar we left our drinks on the bar, although I wasn’t glued to the drinks I stayed in a place that allowed me to see when anyone went near them.
I’ve got very good at protecting the drinks and all my friends are a lot more aware of where their drinks are at all times.
I was dancing with one of my friends across from me but not blocking my view of the drinks when this guy came stumbling across the dance floor and behind my friend and blocked my view of the drinks.
There was something odd about the way he fell, it seemed staged. So I told my friend to check her drink as a precaution, she found a powdery substance in it. We went straight to the doorman and told him what happened, we pointed out the guy who immediately bolted out of the bar and up the road. The security guard looked at us and said ‘his gone now’, I’m not sure what disturbs me most, his total lack of concern or the fact that he didn’t seem surprised by a spiking accusation!
We went to see the manager who took my friends drink and returned with a fresh one, I’m guessing she didn’t save it to present to the police as evidence!
Things calmed down a bit then the guy came back, I verbally attacked him at which point his female friend started defending him. Things start getting a bit blurry for me at this point and I have no memory of going back to my friend’s house or the time we all spent there after the bar. I woke up several hours later with a thumping head and a gap, I put it down too having too much to drink after the incident; I got very upset after it happened.
I haven’t been able to get how I felt when I first woke up this morning out of my head, I was confused and still wearing my contact lenses, I never get so wasted that I sleep in them, I took them out and went back to sleep.
I’ve just realised I could have had something in my drink, my friend and I picked our drinks up at the same time, we looked in hers and found the powder, we didn’t look in mine. I carried that glass around with me and I believe I finished it when we was talking to the manager, how could I be so careless especially when my drink was right next to my friends, they’re easier to watch when there close together but that makes them easier to multi spike!
I’m not really sure how to feel right now but I do feel it is important that I share this experience.

Hello Nicole,
Sorry this happened to you again. When I was in a job training class, out of the 8 or so people that were there, 4 said they heard stories of women being drugged at one particular club.
I would have immediatly thrown my drink out and left after this episode with the magic thumbler. Of course the owner doesn't want an investigation about there being drugs of this nature at the bar and saught to get rid of the evidence. I would have taken the drink with me or asked for a plastic cup to put it in. It must have felt good to let the thumbler have it but in the end, he or someone else was still laughing.

OMG! Poor you... being so considerate and caring of your friends and to get your own drink spiked!! Im amazed that you saw him. Thank god!! As for his female friend its likely she will be his victim one of these days, which I dont wish on anyone.. I am shocked that he had the nerve to come back into the club! When I was raped, one of the things that alerted me was that I had left my lenses in to and the complete panic that they would be glued to my eye balls!! There is no way anyone who wears lenses would leave them in regardless of how much drink is involved and the fact that you cant remember several hours and had a banging head... they are all signs.. Be sure to get some support.. all the best, Wendy

So sorry to hear that this has happened to you again. As the one always careful in my group I was horrified that I was spiked just over a year ago, when in 20 years I won't take a drink from someone without being sure they are someone I know well and are safe. And in 10 years since aware it was a threat would never have left a drink unattended. You can follow all the advice out there and it still happens. I almost stopped going out altogether, and am now excessively paranoid about where I leave my drink. Maybe I will just stop going out because of the fear but I hope not. Thank you for posting as I thought was only me this happened to after taking all the necessary precautions. I wish you all the best for the future.
